11 Dec Variety Presents…Winter Wonderland
December 10, 2018
Hearts were warmed with smiles and good cheer as Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba welcomed over 300 children to its 2nd Annual Winter Wonderland holiday party. The day included live entertainment, a sit-down lunch, a visit from Santa Clause and a present for every child! And the best gift of all, a chance to feel loved and cared for in a warm and friendly environment.
The goal of the event explains Jeff Liba, Variety Manitoba’s CEO – “We want to shower these kids with love, even if its just for a day to make them feel special and cared for,” noting that many of the children who attended the event come from the most economically disadvantaged families in our community.
Make no mistake, Variety’s, Winter Wonderland isn’t a fundraiser and it’s not about corporate recognition rather, its an act of service from folks who truly care. Everyone involved is giving from the heart and you can feel the love in room. One of the many artists who volunteered his time is actor Reid McTavish “its special to be here, artistry is about community, art is what connects us and this is a way to give back,” said McTavish.
With a primarily corporate clientele, the historical and graciously appointed The Metropolitan Entertainment Centre doesn’t see too many kids in a year. “Its magical to take this grandeur and share it with kids,” said Janet Harder, General Manager. “The children dined under gently falling snow, live entertainment and white linen covered seats and tables, it was amazing to see”.
“We show these kids that they are cared for and loved and we know these are the stories they hold onto, in their darkest moments,” said Louis Trepel, long-standing Variety Ambassador.
Variety Manitoba, established in 1978, operates with a volunteer board of directors, dedicated volunteers, and a small staff in support of children of living with special needs and economic disadvantage.
