Lily
Lily is a bright and joyful 3-year-old who was born with an underdeveloped ear, which affects her ability to hear and fully engage with the world around her. For Lily and her family, access to early hearing support is not optional—it is essential to her development, communication, and connection with others.
Bone conduction hearing devices, like the one Lily needs, are not covered by any government programs. Families are often left with only two options: go into significant debt or go without critical equipment during the most important years of their child’s development.
As Lily’s mom shared, “Without help, we simply wouldn’t have been able to give Lily what she needs to hear, learn, and thrive.”
Understanding how vital early intervention is, Lily’s family applied to Variety Manitoba’s Special Needs Program for assistance. Through the program, Lily received $3,800 in funding toward a specialized hearing device—support that made this life-changing equipment possible for her family.
This hearing device will help Lily better hear sounds, support her speech and language development, and strengthen her ability to communicate as she grows. Early intervention like this plays a crucial role in building confidence, fostering independence, and reaching important developmental milestones.
Thanks to the generosity of donors and the support of Variety Manitoba, Lily now has access to the tools she needs to explore, learn, and experience the world more fully—without her family having to choose between her future and financial hardship.
