Mikelle
Mikelle is nine years old. She lives with megalencephaly capillary malformation — a rare condition that affects how her brain and blood vessels developed — and her body works a little differently than most kids her age. But her smile? That works just fine.
Getting ready used to be the hardest part of the day. The bathroom doorway was too narrow for her wheelchair. The shower had a step no one could safely get past. Her parents worried every morning.
With support from people who believe every child deserves a safe home environment, Mikelle’s family received an accessible bathroom renovation — a walk-in shower with grab rails, a lowered sink, and a widened doorway she can wheel straight through. Now she washes her own hands, steadies herself in the shower, and starts every morning with a little more independence.
For children with complex physical needs, an accessible washroom isn’t a luxury. It’s a lifeline — for the child, and for the whole family.
