Taylor’s mom said:

“I wished to take a moment to thank Variety and iCan Bike Winnipeg,
Our son Taylor is a sweet, loving and comical 11-year-old boy who was born with Down syndrome. He attended a week of iCan Bike camp every summer for four years.
The first year, most of his time was spent running around and getting piggyback rides from the patient and caring volunteers.
The second year was a little more time on the bike and still a lot of running around. I even volunteered with another child to see if this would increase Taylor’s engagement. My takeaway from that year was that Taylor was building his confidence, and my rider took off on two wheels; it was a win-win! The third year was more engagement from Taylor, which brings us to the fourth and final year, which had Taylor outside riding “ two wheels’ before half the week was complete. The point of all of this is that your child will learn to ride a bike, whether it takes one year, four years or more. The program, coaches and volunteers are amazing, and each year only builds more confidence and pride in your child!

This is an amazing program, we are so thankful we could be a part of it, Taylor, as a rider, I, as a parent and as a volunteer. The volunteers we met are simply amazing humans who give of their precious time. They are patient, understanding and are full of energy and enthusiasm and are eager to learn about your child to see how to make their experience one that is unforgettable for all the right reasons.
Taylor had this opportunity to work with so many wonderful people, and it has now opened a door to a whole new world as physical activity goes, the more our children can do physically, the healthier they will be and as far as social interactions go, he now has one more activity he can participate in with family and friends!
