Variety Manitoba brings VOLT Hockey to Winnipeg!

Volt Hockey is an adaptive sports program designed to make hockey accessible to individuals with disabilities. Volt is a unique adaptation to the sport of hockey as it allows participants who have more complex needs – particularly those with limited upper mobility, to be able to play the sport that extends beyond other adaptive variations of hockey today. This adaptive sport allows individuals with various mobility challenges to experience the excitement and camaraderie of hockey, fostering inclusivity and providing an avenue for physical activity.

Winnipeg Volt Hockey currently has 5 teams who will faceoff with each other. Games will be taking place on Sundays at Dakota Community Centre Fieldhouse from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. To watch and see what VOLT is all about, please join us.

We are currently looking for Sponsors and Donors to support our Winnipeg VOLT Hockey teams.

If you would like to support, download our Sponsorship Brochure here. We would also be happy to work with you for customized opportunities. Feel free to contact Ashley at atavares@varietymanitoba.com or call her at 204-999-7973.

We welcome children and youth (ages 10- 18) living with disabilities and their families to come join us and learn more about this new sport opportunity. Our next “Come Try Volt Hockey” session will take place on April 14th at Dakota Community Centre Fieldhouse from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.

This sport will work best for your child if they are able to:

  • sit for approximately 1 hour
  • willing to participate in a recreational team sport
  • be in a gym setting with loud noises and lots of people

If you are interested, please sign up for sessions here:

We are also recruiting Volunteers, Volunteer Coaches and Volunteer Assistant Coaches to assist us with the program.

If you are interested in volunteering and/or learning more please SIGN UP HERE.

Volt is played as a 3 vs 3 game on an indoor gym or court using specially designed hockey sport chairs. This allows virtually
any person living with mobility limitations the ability to play the sport of hockey independently.

Volt is played in a specially designed electric sport chair with multiple speeds that is operated with a joystick. With a low center of gravity and hockey blade attached to the chair. The chair comes in three fully modifiable sizes, depending on the height of the player.

Volt Hockey allows everyone to be apart of the team! Participants, regardless of their level of mobility, find themselves part of a community where differences are celebrated, and everyone’s unique strengths contribute to the collective success of the team. We believe that every child should have an opportunity to play sports regardless of what their disability may be.
